Ice Arena takes chill off winter with Sunday events

10:01 p.m., Jan. 2, 2004--Winter weekends can be dreary if time hangs heavy and the kids are bored. But, with the range of activities scheduled at the University of Delaware Ice Arena during January and February, cabin fever isn’t likely to set in.

Packing its Sunday public skating sessions with guests and giveaways certain to please all ages and interests, UD’s Fred Rust Ice Arena promises more than just a few spins around the ice during the heart of winter. Below is the lineup of all the treats to come during Family Fun Sundays, co-sponsored by WSTW-FM and Arby’s Roast Beef restaurants.

Sunday, Jan. 4: From 1:30-2:30 p.m., Jungle John will appear with his traveling zoo and a face painter.
Sunday, Jan. 11: From 1-3 p.m., YoUDee and Reggy will make guest appearances.
Sunday, Jan. 18: From 1-3 p.m., WSTW’s Tookie Tookie Bird will touch down along with another WSTW on-air personality for a live remote broadcast.
Sunday, Jan. 25: From 1-3 p.m., Nemo and Ariel from Kool Beans will close out the month with a bang.
Sunday, Feb. 1: From 1:30-2:30 p.m., February will get off to a festive start with a return visit from Jungle John and a roving face painter.
Sunday, Feb. 8: From 1-3 p.m., Sponge Bob and Sparkle the Clown from Kool Beans will liven up things.
Sunday, Feb 15: From 1-3 p.m., YoUDee, Reggy and the UD cheerleading squad will make a spirited appearance.
Sunday, Feb. 22: From 1-3 p.m., Elmo and Snow White from Kool Beans will be on hand.
Sunday, Feb. 29: From 1-3 p.m., UD hockey players and figure skaters will wrap up the month and give new meaning to Leap Day.

Admission to public sessions is $5; skate rentals are $3. Parental supervision is required for children 12 and under. For more information, or to receive a program guide on special promotions, skating lessons or in-house hockey leagues, call 831-2868 or visit [www.udel.edu/icearena].
