Retrospective highlights 40 years of work by retiring professor

“Prodigal Son” by Larry Holmes
11:07 a.m., March 19, 2004--An upcoming exhibit of 20 works, created over the past 40 years, will showcase the artistic career of Larry Holmes, painter and retiring UD professor of art.

“Larry Holmes, 40 Years of Painting: A Retrospective” will run from Tuesday, March 30, through Sunday, May 9, in the west wing of the University Gallery, in Old College on the Newark campus.

The body of work, which spans the years from 1964 to 2004, includes oil and alkyd paintings, one pastel, one lithograph and one piece of sculpture. Compiled by Holmes, the show represents pivotal points in his painting career and showcases his artistic journey.

All works in the retrospective are for sale, as is a pastel that Holmes donated to the Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition and silent auction, scheduled March 30-April 11 in the main wing of the University Gallery.

Gallery hours are from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Wednesdays; and from 1-4 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.

The University Gallery is located on the second floor of Old College at the corner of Main Street and North College Avenue. The show is free and open to the public.

For more information on the Holmes retrospective, call (302) 831-8242. For more information on the April 2 silent auction of work in the faculty exhibition, call 831-2244.
