Students win engineering scholarships, awards 2:58 p.m., Feb. 27, 2004--National Engineers Week had special significance for two UD undergraduates and 12 high school students who plan to attend UDthey all received scholarships and monetary awards from the Delaware Engineering Society (DES). The scholarships, awarded Thursday, Feb. 26, are designed to encourage Delaware students to pursue careers and studies in engineering. Kevin M. Carter, of Danbury, Conn., a computer engineering senior, received the $1,000 Bangalore T. Lakshman Scholarship, and Joseph Leiva of Burtonsville, Md., a junior civil engineering major, received the $1,000 Bangalore T. Lakshman in Civil Engineering Award from DES. In addition, 12 high school students who have expressed interest in studying engineering at the college level each received a $2,000 award, renewable for four years.
