DEMA testing emergency phone system Sept. 25

11:52 a.m., Sept. 25, 2003--Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) is testing its “Reverse 911” system in the city of Newark this afternoon.

Reverse 911 is a telephone dialing and messaging system that allows information about emergencies to go directly to individuals via their telephones.

The message being sent this afternoon is a test message from a company located in Louisiana that has been contracted by DEMA to supply this service. The company will be testing a wide area in Newark today, so many campus phones may receive the message.

This process is a test, and there is no need for concern.
