Newark Police arrest man for December robbery of student

4:48 p.m., June 7, 2004--Newark Police have arrested Jason J. Phillip of Brooklyn, N.Y., for the robbery of a UD student that occurred around 1 a.m., Dec. 7, at the corner of Wollaston and Kells avenues in Newark.

In the December incident, the student was walking home when two men approached him and asked to use his cell phone because their car was broken down. The student gave one man his cell phone and was then attacked by both men, who struck him in the face before taking the phone and driving away.

After an investigation, Newark Police obtained a warrant for Phillip, who then turned himself in to police. He appeared before the New Castle County Superior Court, where he was charged with first degree robbery and second degree conspiracy. He was released on secured bond.
