University Police arrest man for October robbery

4:38 p.m., May 21, 2004--With the arrest of a man on May 20 for a robbery last October, University Police have identified suspects and made arrests in three of the four reported cases of robbery on the campus this academic year, for a clearance rate of 75 percent.

“Through the good work of one of our investigators, Det. John Haug, Jimmy Kelly of Wilmington has been arrested and charged with several felonies, including robbery, weapons violations and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony,” Lawrence O. Thornton, director of Public Safety at the University, said.

Kelly was already in jail on other charges, and his bail has been set at more than $450,000. A second suspect has been identified, and Haug is attempting to locate him.

In the Oct. 10 incident, a group that included two UD students was robbed by three men, one of whom had a gun, at around 9:45 p.m. in the Russell parking lot off Academy Street. The students from UD and Delaware Technical and Community College were approached by the three men, who demanded money and got $50-$60 from the students before fleeing on foot. No one was injured.
