Newark Police release sketch of suspect in fondling case

4:34 p.m., April 26, 2004--Newark Police have released two sketches of the suspect who fondled a UD student on April 18.

The sketches are based on descriptions by the student and a witness.

The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m., April 28, in the 2400 block of Scholar Drive. The student was walking across the parking lot when she began to be followed by a man, described as 5’8”-5’10” tall, 170-200 pounds, wearing a blue baseball cap, gray T-shirt, blue jeans and round glasses.

He approached, lifted her skirt and grabbed her buttocks. She screamed, and others in the area then scared off the suspect, who ran away. The student was not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Gerald Bryda at (302) 366-7110, ext. 132, or Delaware Crimestoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, where information may be left anonymously.

Students are advised to walk in groups during late-night hours and should always be aware of their surroundings. Additional safety tips can be found at [www.udel.edu/PublicSafety/safetytips.htm].
