UD’s 155th Commencement set for May 29

Joseph R. Biden Jr.
4:02 p.m., April 20, 2004--The University of Delaware will hold its 155th Commencement beginning at 9 a.m., rain or shine, Saturday, May 29, at Delaware Stadium. In case of severe storm conditions, the free public ceremony will be shortened.

Commencement booklets with complete and important information, including a form for contributing to the Senior Class Gift, have sent out to degree candidates and their families.

The Commencement speaker will be the U.S. Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., AS ’65, (D-Del.), who has earned national and international recognition as a policy innovator and legislator. Biden serves as top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and is the party’s chief spokesperson on national security and foreign policy issues. He also serves on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Victims’ Rights and has been instrumental in crafting the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 and the Violence Against Women Act of 2000.

With the exception of special-interest ceremonies, including the Army and Air Force ROTC commissioning ceremonies on Friday, most college and departmental Convocation ceremonies will be held after Commencement on Saturday at different locations on campus.

Box lunches for Saturday may be ordered in advance by completing the form in the booklet. Deadline is May 3.

Commencement ceremony videos also may be ordered from University Media Services using the form in the booklet.
