May 27, 2004--Arlene Caggiula, 62, a nutritionist and researcher for many years at the University of Pittsburgh, died May 22, after a fall in her home.
Dr. Caggiula earned her masters degree in nutrition and dietetics at UD in 1965. She received her bachelors degree in home economics from Montclair State College in 1963 and completed her doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh in 1979.
She joined the University of Pittsburghs Graduate School of Public Health in 1973 and was the author of more than 70 research papers on nutritional approaches to hypertension, kidney disease and elevated
cholesterol levels. She retired two years ago.
She was married to Anthony Caggiula, chairman of the psychology department at Pitt and a 1964 UD alumnus. They met while they were both in graduate school at UD.
In 1993, Dr. Caggiula received the UD Human Resources Alumni Associations Outstanding Alumni Award.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother, Eric
Wroldsen, of Tucker, Ga.
