UD pitcher Mike Mihalik is recognized by the CAA

11:26 a.m., May 11, 2004--University of Delaware senior Mike Mihalik has been named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Pitcher of the Week.

In an 11-0 win over Hofstra on Saturday, Mihalik threw eight shutout innings, scattering six hits and striking out seven. He now has 253 career strikeouts, tied for first in the UD record book with former Fightin’ Blue Hen Rich McGuire.

Mihalik improved to 5-3 on the season and now has 19 career victories. Only 13 other pitchers in UD history have won 20 games.

Mihalik is the second Hen to earn CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. Earlier this season, senior Jarame Beaupre was recognized after tossing the seventh no-hitter in school history.

Old Dominion junior Justin Verlander, who struck out 17 batters in a 3-2 win over James Madison on Saturday, was the other pitcher honored this week.
