Peffer named top swimmer, Henn top rookie diver

Sarah Peffer
10:25 a.m., April 29, 2004--The Colonial Athletic Association has named University of Delaware senior Sarah Peffer the Female Swimmer of the Year and freshman diver Steve Henn the Male Rookie Diver of the Year, it was announced Wednesday.

Peffer, a second-year transfer from the University of Nebraska, has won eight CAA individual and relay titles. In this season’s conference championship meet, she captured the 500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle individual events and was a member of UD’s 400 individual medley, 400 medley and 800 freestyle relay teams. She was named the meet's outstanding performer.

Peffer was a provisional qualifier for the NCAA championships in the 1,650 freestyle and set school records in the 200 freestyle (1:51.38), 500 freestyle (4:54.90), 1,650 freestyle (16:45.07), 400 individual medley (4:25.81) and 800 freestyle relay (7:35.68). She also competed at the U.S. national meet held in February in Orlando, Fla.

Henn made an immediate impact for UD, winning the one-meter event five times and the three-meter event three times in dual meets. At the CAA championships, he finished sixth in the one-meter and ninth in the three-meter, the highest individual finishes by any member of the UD men’s team.
