Blue-White Game Friday to feature special auction The game is the highlight of spring practice and this year will feature both a silent auction and the presentation of national championship rings to the Fightin Blue Hens. Silent auction items include the Oakley sunglasses worn by Head Coach K.C. Keeler during the 40-0 victory over Colgate University in the championship game played Dec. 19 in Chattanooga, Tenn.; a UD helmet signed by All-Americans Andy Hall, Jason Nerys and Shawn Johnson; a painting by College Football Hall of Fame inductee Tubby Raymond; sideline passes to the 2004 game against the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis; and a football autographed by Hen great Rich Gannon, quarterback of the Oakland Raiders and former National Football League Most Valuable Player. The auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. under the west stands, or home side of the field. Participants can submit bids through the first half of the game, and winners will be announced at halftime. National championship rings will be presented at the end of the game, after which players will be available at the South End Zone stands to sign autographs. The game itself will feature a look at the 2004 Hens, who return an experienced nucleus but must replace several key players, including Hall, Nerys, Johnson, defensive back Mike Adams and running backs Germaine Bennett and Antawn Jenkins. Transfer Santino Sonny Riccio from the University of Missouri will battle sophomores Ryan Carty and Brad Michael for the quarterback position. Carty saw action in eight games last season and Michael in two. A top running back candidate is Niquan Lee, who had several fine carries in limited action last season, while UD returns its tour top wide receivers, juniors David Boler, Justin Long, Brian Ingram and Joe Bleymaier. On defense, the Hens add University of West Virginia transfer Rachid Stoury to a solid line, and fan favorites Mondoe Davis and John Mulhern anchor an experienced linebacker corps. Veteran Sydney Haugabrook returns at defensive back. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
