Ex-Hen Mench back on field for Texas Rangers 1:29 p.m., June 16, 2004--Former University of Delaware baseball star Kevin Mench is back in the starting lineup for Major League Baseballs Texas Rangers after recovering from a muscle strain. Before the injury, suffered while making a throw in a game in late May, the outfielder was hitting .289 with five home runs and 25 runs batted in 41 games. He is 15th among outfielders in the most recent American League All-Star balloting, with 156,033 votes. Another UD player, pitcher Mike Koplove, is 2-1 with an earned run average of 5.06 for the Arizona Diamondbacks of the National League. Koplove has seen action in 37 games for the Diamondbacks. Among former Fightin Blue Hens in the minor leagues, Mark Michael is off to a strong start as a pitcher with the Peoria Chiefs of the Class A Midwest League. In 12 games this season, Michael is 4-4 with one complete game and a 3.84 earned run average. He has 59 strikeouts for the Chiefs, a minor league team in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Among other former Fightin Blue Hens in the minor leagues, three are with teams in the Class A Florida State League. Outfielder Reid Gorecki is playing for the Palm Beach Cardinals, catcher John Schneider for the Dunedin Blue Jays and outfielder Vince Vukovich for the Clearwater Threshers, a Philadelphia Phillies farm team. Infielder Kris Dufner is playing for the Bakersfield Blaze of the California League, a Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devils Rays, and infielder Andrew Salvo is batting .309 in 25 games for the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League.
