Blue Hen baseball team extends win streak to nine

9:49 a.m., May 10, 2004--The University of Delaware baseball team has won nine straight following a three-game Colonial Athletic Association sweep at Hofstra University over the weekend.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens won 12-3 on Friday, 11-0 on Saturday and 16-4 on Sunday to improve to 28-16 overall and 10-7 in the conference.

UD will play a pair of nonconference games this week at Bob Hannah Stadium before traveling to George Mason University for a weekend CAA series. The Hens will host George Washington University at 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, and Rutgers University at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 13.

George Mason is leading the CAA with a record of 31-13 overall and 15-3 in the conference. Virginia Commonwealth is in second place, the University of North Carolina Wilmington is in third and UD is in fourth.

In Sunday’s victory, UD shortstop Todd Davison had four hits and three runs scored, right fielder Dave Harden had three hits and four runs batted in, left fielder Ed McDonnell had two hits and four runs batted in and designated hitter Kelly Buber had one hit, three runs batted in and three runs scored.

Jarame Beaupre earned his fifth win of the season, going six innings and allowing five hits and three earned runs.

On Saturday, Davison had four hits and four runs batted in, and second baseman Brock Donovan had four hits and three runs scored. Mike Mihalik picked up his fifth win of the season, working eight innings and scattering six hits.

Davison had three hits on Friday, while third baseman Ryan Graham had two hits and two runs scored and right fielder Bryan Hagerich had two hits, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Scott Rambo gained his fifth win of the season, allowing seven hits and three runs in eight innings of work.
