Barnett joins Delaware volleyball coaching staff

10:30 a.m., July 21, 2003--University of Delaware women's volleyball Head Coach Bonnie Kenny has announced the addition of former University of New Hampshire standout Stacy Barnett to the Blue Hen staff as a graduate assistant coach.

Barnett, 24, a native of Crystal Lake, Ill., replaces Sara Pohl, who served as graduate assistant coach the last two seasons, including Kenny's first season at the helm in 2002. Barnett will work towards her master's degree in education while assisting with the team.

Barnett was a four-year standout at setter for New Hampshire, leading the Wildcats to four straight 20-win seasons. She was part of the 1998 squad that posted a 24-11 record, captured the America East Conference title and advanced to the NCAA tournament under head coach Jill Hirschinger.

Barnett, a 2001 graduate of UNH with a degree in communications, was the first setter in New Hampshire history to record 3,000 assists. She ended her career as the school's all-time leader with 3,977.

Barnett earned first team All-America East honors in 1998 and as a senior in 2000, when she led the league with a school record 1,350 assists (12.05 per game). She also earned second team All-America East honors in 1999.

She began her coaching career at UNH last fall when she served as an assistant under Hirschinger and helped lead the Wildcats to a record of 23-11, the America East title and another berth in the NCAA tournament.

UD went 9-20 in 2002, and the team placed sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association with a conference record of 6-10.

The Blue Hens will open the 2003 season Aug. 29-30 at the College of Charleston Tournament in South Carolina.
