Ballroom dancing lessons begin for fall semester |
7:35 p.m., Sept. 5, 2003--For those who have ever stood longingly on the dance floor sidelines, help is only a quick step away. Starting Sunday, Sept. 7, instruction in ballroom dancing will be offered to University and community members in 10-week classes taught by representatives from UDs Ballroom Dance Team.
The classes, which are offered on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, cater to different skill and interest levels, and are designed to teach or perfect basic ballroom dance steps. The foxtrot, rumba, tango, swing, cha-cha and waltz are among the dances covered, and private lessons and wedding choreography are also available upon request.
All classes are 50 minutes and are held in the Pearson Hall Gym. The Sunday evening course, which starts at 7 p.m., Sept. 7, is geared for beginners, and teaches the basics in waltz, foxtrot, swing, cha-cha, rumba and tango steps. The Tuesday evening course, which begins at 7 and 8 p.m., Sept. 9, offer mixed classes in salsa, swing, rumba, tango and choreography for beginning and advanced students. The Thursday evening course, which starts at 7 p.m., Sept. 11, offers advanced instruction in the salsa step only.
Fees are $45 for full-time students, $75 for all others, and participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes early on the first day of class in order to register. No partner is necessary, and participants are asked to wear soft-soled shoes to class. For more information, visit [www.udel.edu/dance].
