South African AIDS Awareness Week begins April 26

12:45 p.m., April 21, 2004--The Battle for Life Committee of Alpha Lambda Delta, a national academic honor society for first-year students, is holding South African AIDS Awareness Week from Monday, April 26, through Saturday, May 1, to support the Tumelong Haven for Orphans and Motheong Primary School, two organizations in South Africa that work with children affected by HIV/AIDS.

The events include:

  • Jealousy Curve free rock concert on the Trabant University Center patio, from noon-2 p.m., Monday, April 26;
  • Slideshow presentation of the Battle for Life Committee’s service abroad trip to South Africa during Winter Session, at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 101 Brown Laboratory;
  • Third annual Battle for Life Concert with four local bands in a battle of the bands, followed by a performance by two-time winner, Omnisoul, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 30, Trabant University Center Multipurpose Rooms, $5 admission fee; and
  • Strides for the Future 5K race, at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 1, Creek Road and Ray Street, preregistration $15, day of race $20. Teams of five or more persons are encouraged. For more information, visit [www.races2run.com] and click on Strides for the Future.
