Lecture series highlights authors, craft of writing

3:31 p.m., April 13, 2004--Four upcoming lectures will feature well-known authors of fiction and nonfiction in a spring lecture series at the Academy of Lifelong Learning.

Titled “Meet the Author: The Art of Fiction and Nonfiction,” the series is set from 1-2:30 p.m. every Friday, from April 16-May 7, at Arsht Hall on the Wilmington Campus.

The first lecture, on April 16, will highlight local poet and novelist Julianna Baggott, author of the national bestseller “Girl Talk” and subsequent acclaimed novels “The Miss America Family” and “The Madam.”

The second lecture, set for April 23, will feature crime novelist Ed Dee, a former New York City police detective now known for his realistic mysteries.

The April 30 lecture will bring Laura Wexler to the spotlight to discuss narrative journalism and her recent book, “A Fire in Canebrake: The Last Mass Lynching in America.”

Capping the series on May 7, New York Times bestselling author Gerald Posner will talk about his recent acclaimed book “Why America Slept: The Failure to Prevent 9/11,” as well as his other bestsellers on subjects ranging from Nazi war criminals to assassinations.

The free series, which is open to the public, is cosponsored by the Academy of Lifelong Learning, the University of Delaware Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program and the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies.
