Atlantic 10 recognizes Blue Hens Hall, Johnson

10:15 a.m., Oct. 21, 2003--Two University of Delaware players have been honored by the Atlantic 10 Football Conference for their efforts in the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ 55-10 victory over the University of Rhode Island on Saturday.

UD senior quarterback Andy Hall, a Walter Payton Award candidate, was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week, and senior defensive end Shawn Johnson was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Hall completed 16 of 22 passes for 153 yards and four touchdowns and added 71 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries. The four touchdown passes were the most for UD since Matt Nagy threw four scoring strikes against the College of William & Mary in 1998, and came in just over two quarters of work.

Johnson spearheaded a suffocating UD defensive effort with seven tackles, including three for loss, along with a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. It was the fifth consecutive game in which Johnson recorded a sack.

The UD defense had an outstanding game, limiting Rhode Island to 46 yards of total offense in the first half and 179 yards rushing for the game, well below the Rams’ average of 353.2 yards per game.
