United Way addresses giving concerns
3:55 p.m., Nov. 3, 2003--When making a donation, pledgers often ask, Why should I give through United Way and not directly to a charity?
United Way works as an umbrella organization, raising funds for crucial health and human service programs. All United Way member agencies meet rigorous management standards that are reviewed on a regular basis. Each approved agency has an established record of service and is financially stable. When donors give to United Way member agencies, they can be assured that their contribution is being invested wisely.
In addition, United Way of Delawares 10.5 percent overhead is one of the lowest in the country among nonprofits. With the help of volunteers, United Way of Delawares efficient fundraising practices allow it to maximize its resources by directing them to worthwhile programs and not to high administrative costs.
