Ron Whittington named special assistant to CHEP dean

Tim Barnekov, dean of the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy, and Ronald F. Whittington

10:25 a.m., Aug. 22, 2003--Ronald F. Whittington, who has served as UD’s affirmative action director since 1993, assumed new responsibilities Aug. 1 as special assistant to Tim Barnekov, dean of the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.

In his new position, Whittington will oversee efforts to recruit students and promote diversity in CHEP academic programs.

“Ron brings to the college a commitment to community service and will assist CHEP academic units and centers to build strong relationships with the community,” Barnekov said.

A 1971 UD graduate, Whittington holds a master's degree in business from Central Michigan University. He joined the UD staff in 1979, serving over the years as assistant director of admissions, adjunct professor and later assistant to the dean and director of the Cooperative Education Program in the Lerner College of Business and Economics, and assistant to the president.

Gibson to oversee affirmative action
Judith Gibson, assistant vice president for affirmative action and multicultural programs, has assumed responsibility for overseeing the University’s affirmative action program. She will work with departments and administrative units in reviewing candidates to fill vacant positions at UD.

Gibson, who has three degrees from Indiana University Bloomington and a certificat from the Sorbonne at the University of Paris, taught French in public elementary and secondary schools and has held teaching and administrative positions in higher education. Over the past two decades, Gibson, who came to UD in 1980, has refocused her work to include affirmative action and multicultural issues.

Richie Holland, manager of employment and training, now handles all affirmative action record-keeping functions. All affirmative action-related paperwork associated with search processes should be forwarded to the Office of Human Resources at 413 Academy St.

Human Resources is developing a web form to streamline the affirmative action documentation process by electronically combining required forms.
