Blue Hen Ambassadors sought
4:15 p.m., Oct. 20, 2003--Students can develop public speaking skills, meet friends and earn $6.25 an hour as a Blue Hen Ambassador. The deadline for applications is Thursday, Oct. 23.
Blue Hen Ambassadors are the students in Blue Hen shirts or fleece who conduct campus tours, promote the University to prospective students and their families, respond to e-mail inquiries prospective students send to the admissions office and discuss campus life in panel discussions.
Blue Hen Ambassadors receive training to build personal and professional skills, and they receive Blue Hen Ambassador apparel.
Students who can work independently and as part of a team, have common sense and good communication skills, are tactful and dependable, and have a positive and confident attitude, probably have what it takes to become a Blue Hen Ambassador. The job calls for patience, creativity, diplomacy, flexibility and a sense of humor.
Blue Hen Ambassador applicants should be able to commit at least two hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Ambassadors are expected to participate in several Saturday events and to attend monthly training meetings.
Ambassadors must be full-time undergraduate students with a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Students who wish to become Blue Hen Ambassadors may apply if their grade point averages are above 2.0, but they must attach a statement to their applications explaining why their grade point is lower than 2.5. Freshmen and transfer students will be expected to meet the grade point requirement at the end of the fall semester.
The application form is available at [www.udel.edu/BHA]. A faculty or staff member or a residence hall staff member must complete the recommendation form. Both forms should be delivered to the Blue Hen Ambassador Selection Committee at the University of Delaware Visitors Center, 196 South College Ave., by 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23.
