In Memoriam
Jeanne K. Buxbaum

April 23, 2003— UD alumna and benefactor Jeanne Kitenplon Buxbaum, 87, died on April 12.

Dr. Buxbaum earned bachelor’s and doctoral degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Science, in 1938 and 1941, respectively. She later received her MBA from the University of Delaware in 1974.

Employed by the DuPont Co. in Wilmington as a research scientist, she was known for her organizational skills, creativity and hard work, which propelled her into a highly productive and rich career where she was rewarded with strong peer recognition. She retired from DuPont in the late 1980s.

She was an active member of numerous professional associations, including Sigma Xi and the Association of Chemical Engineers.

Dr. Buxbaum was an avid gardener, loved classical music, had an absolute penchant for orderliness and structure and retained her brilliant cognitive capabilities to the very last when her body failed to support her strong will.

She was strongly dedicated to the University of Delaware, as evidenced by her financial leadership gifts to the Academy of Lifelong Learning and her contributions of items to the University's collections.

UD President David Roselle said, "Our institution is a better place because of Jeanne Buxbaum's friendship, and our debt to her will endure."

She was preceded in death by Dr. Edwin C. Buxbaum, professor emeritus of anthropology at UD and former Du Pont researcher, who died in June of 1989.

Burial will be private. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 24, at Christ Church chapel on Buck Road East, Greenville, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the YWCA, 233 King St., Wilmington, DE 19801, attn: Dir. R. Sokolowski.
