10:55 a.m., May 8, 2003--Service, celebration and seafood (or beef tips) marked the annual Service Awards Dinner, held Monday, May 5, in Clayton Hall.

Hosted by Vice President for Administration Maxine Colm, the event celebrated members of the University community for 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of service. In addition, special recognition was given to retirees.

UD President David P. Roselle told the honored guests, “Clearly, we consider the high standards you have set to be worthy of recognition. And so, we gather this evening to thank you for your achievement, creativity, loyalty…not to mention, longevity… in service to the University of Delaware.”

Tallying up the evening’s statistics, he said the group included 205 employees with a total of 5,200 years of service. In addition, the 73 retirees boasted 1,846 years of service. “I can assure you that those numbers are very impressive,” he said.

Each of the retirees present was asked to come forward, presented with a special certificate and had a photograph taken with Roselle, Executive Vice President David Hollowell and Provost Dan Rich.

Roselle concluded by saying, “Because of the work you have done, the University of Delaware has gained great respect and recognition, taking its place among the premiere institutions of higher education in the United States. Recognition for the University of Delaware is a reflection of you and your contributions, as well as on the institution itself. Never underestimate your role in the achievements we have made. I know I do not.”
