Synergy fashion show draws record crowd

The University of Delaware's Synergy student fashion organization drew a record turnout to its "Amalgamation" fashion show, held Saturday, May 11, in the Trabant University Center.

The show played to a full house, according to Elise Cole, Synergy co-president.

"Amalgamation" featured the work of 23 student designers, which was double the number in past years, Cole said. It also featured 50 models, all UD students, and the assistance of three visual communications students who designed poster, programs, tickets and the background screen.

"I thought the show went extremely well this year," Cole said. "We worked extremely hard to pull it together, and one of our goals was to get as many students involved as possible."

Synergy: The Fashion Group includes students from a variety of majors, with most in the apparel design or fashion merchandising programs. To participate in the show, planning for which began last fall, students were required to submit an original design.

Designers drew their inspiration from a wide variety of areas, according to Cole. The seniors, for instance, developed a special collection inspired by architecture. One designer was inspired by the Spanish Colonial style, one by bridges, one by a mosque and another by older buildings.
