Swiss television crew films skaters

A Swiss television crew visited the University of Delaware campus Friday, Dec. 14, to film the ice dance team of Eliane and Daniel Hugentobler.

The Hugentoblers, who are sister and brother, train with the skating club EC Frauenfeld in Europe and also at UD, where they receive instruction from former Olympian Natalia Linitchouk and Guennadi Karponossov.

Linitchouk serves as both a coach and choreographer for the team.

Born in Zurich, Eliane and Daniel were first paired on the ice when she was 5 and he was 7.

They finished 13th in the 2001 European Figure Skating Championships held last January in Bratislavia.

The Hugentoblers are among a number of American and international skaters who are at UD preparing for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, which will run from Feb. 8–Feb. 24. Ice skating programs will begin Feb. 9 and close Feb. 22 with an exhibition at the Salt Lake Ice Center.
