Special student events kick off UD's fall semester

Aug. 29, 2002--Whether meeting new people or catching up with old friends, students---returning and new--can start the school year by participating in a variety of special events scheduled to kick off the fall semester at UD.

Out & About: Monday, Sept. 2

At the “Fun & Games Open House,” which runs from 9–11 p.m. in the Carpenter Sports Building, students will get a sneak peak at the physical fitness activities available at UD, from rock climbing and fitness demonstrations to intramural and club sport presentations.

Those looking for a few laughs can turn to the “Bacchus Comedy Club,” where comedians will be performing from 9 p.m.-midnight at the Bacchus Theatre on the lower level of the Perkins Student Center. First up is Todd Lynn from Comedy Central, Comic View and the Russell Simmons DefComedy Jam Tour. At 10:30 p.m., Rob Magnotti will do his celebrity impersonations, including Al Pacino, George Bush and Bill Cosby, among others.

High rollers looking for a good time should check out the “Trabant Casino and Video Dance Party,” where money and prizes will be given away from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. at the Trabant Multipurpose Room. And, those in the mood for a dance party will be able to enjoy the latest music videos in front of the 10- x 15-foot video screen.

An open house at the “Hen Zone Sports Lounge,” in the lower level of Perkins Student Center, will be held from 9 p.m.–2 a.m. Students will enjoy free billiards, ping pong, air hockey and foosball, along with a big screen TV, music and free mocktails.

If you want to chill out and catch a flick, “Movie Madness” will show recent suspense and comedy films at the Trabant University Center from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Sorority Boys will play at 9 p.m., followed by Murder by Numbers at 10:45 p.m. and 40 Days & 40 Nights at 12:30 a.m.

Enjoy the “Sounds in The Scrounge” in The Scrounge at the Perkins Student Center, where WVUD, the University’s 24-hour student and community run radio station, will present a hip-hop DJ mixing between local bands from 10 p.m.-2 a.m.

Student Activities Night: Tuesday, Sept. 3

The Trabant University Center will hold the Fall Student Activities Night from 7-9 p.m., with representatives from more than 200 student organizations on hand to discuss their groups, provide giveaways and entertainment.

Freaky Friday: Friday, Sept. 13

The Student Center Programing Advisory Board will kick off the year with “Freaky Friday,” scheduled from noon-4 p.m. on the patio of the Trabant University Center with live music, sideshow performer Todd Robbins, giveaways, inflatable games and refreshments.
