UD professor to speak at art department luncheon on April 17

Victor Spinski, professor of art, will speak at the art department’s annual brown bag lunch, scheduled at noon, Wednesday, April 17, in the University Gallery, in connection with the faculty art exhibition on display there through April 21.

The author of several books, including “Art of the Eighties,” and most recently, “Ceramic Ways of Creation,” Spinski has been the subject of articles in a variety of publications, including, The New York Times, The New Yorker Magazine, Ceramics Monthly, and American Craft Magazine.

Spinski’s work is held in the collections of 11 museums, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Everson Museum of Art, the Art Complex Museum and the Delaware Art Museum.

Recently, Spinski has participated in exhibitions at the Sybaris and Habitat-Shaw Galleries in Michigan, the Nancy Margolis Gallery in New York City and the Peck Gallery in Rhode Island.

Other group shows in which Spinski’s work has been exhibited include the prestigious “Fifty-sixth Ceramic Annual 2000,” at Scripps College in Claremont, Cal., and “Hot off the Press,” which originated in London and traveled throughout Europe.

One-person shows include multiple exhibits at the Theo Portnoy and Henoch Galleries in New York City, as well as an exhibition at the Leedyt-Volkos Gallery in Kansas City, Mo.

A fellowship winner from the National Endowment for the Arts, Spinski also has received several research grants from UD, resulting in his patent on a process of photo ceramic emulsion.

Spinski received his bachelor of arts degree from Emporia State University in 1964 and a master of fine arts degree from Indiana University in 1967.
