Southern Delaware Golf Outing a success

June 7, 2002--More than 80 golfers enjoyed a day on the links at the University of Delaware Southern Delaware Golf Outing, held Tuesday, June 4, at the Baywood Greens Golf Course in Long Neck. The event raised money for student scholarships at UD.

Participants included UD President David P. Roselle, retired head football coach Tubby Raymond and new football coach K.C. Keeler.

No golfer won either of the two top prizes for getting a hole-in-one. A $1 million prize was sponsored by Jeffrey B. Martino, an agent with American Express Financial Advisers Inc., and another hole-in-one contest was sponsored by Harley Davidson of Seaford.

Two teams received Gore Windstopper® vests for earning the lowest gross and net scores of the day.

A team from the Raymond Entertainment Group, composed of Dave and Chris Raymond, Mark Doughty and Bill Stritzinger, all of Newark, earned the lowest gross score of 57. Scoring the lowest net total, 48, was the Rotorac team of Scott Urban, Jeff Trivits and Richard Majors, all of Salisbury, Md.

The tournament began after a leisurely lunch donated by Papa Johns, with tee-off at 1 p.m. The warm, sunny weather augmented the already beautiful Baywood course, and the turnout of golfers was good. At the end of the day, golfers enjoyed an authentic spicy Cajun-style barbecue, followed by the awards reception.

“The Baywood Greens people were fantastic,” Eric Nelson, UD advertising and marketing manager who organized the event, said. “Brian Barrows, their pro, was very helpful and I’m looking forward to working with them again next year.”

Next year’s tournament will be held June 3, 2003.
