Expert on 'Shakespeare and the Jews' lectures Oct. 8
Oct. 8, 2002--James Shapiro, author and professor of English and comparative literature at Columbia University, will speak on Jessica, the Jews Daughter, at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, in 123 Memorial Hall. Author of Rival Playwrights: Marlowe, Jonson, Shakespeare (1991), Shakespeare and the Jews (1995) and Oberammergau: The Troubling Story of the Worlds Most Famous Passion Play (2002), Shapiro is working on A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare. Shapiro has co-edited the Columbia Anthology of British Poetry and has served as acting associate editor of the Columbia History of British Poetry. Shapiro won the Bainton Prize for the best book on the 16th century and has won awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Huntington Library and the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture.
