Self-Care Fair offers workshops, education Nov. 13

4:25 p.m., Nov. 8, 2002--Learn ways to take better care of yourself at the Self-Care Fair, scheduled from 7-10 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Trabant University Center. Sponsored by the University’s Eating Disorders Coordinating Council (EDCC), the fair is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

An EDCC welcome center will be open from 7-10 p.m., in Multipurpose Room A, with local vendors, information, and professionals and educated peers to answer questions. Refreshments will be served.

The following workshops will be offered:

  • 7-10 p.m., Chair and Hand Massage, with chair massage therapy by Massageworks and hand massage by Pow!—Promoters of Wellness, Multipurpose Room A;

  • 7-8:15 p.m., Belly Dancing, taught by Almaaza, Multipurpose Room C;

  • 7-8:15 p.m., Women and Writing, with Donna Tuites, counselor, Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, and Kristina Lyhus, post doctoral fellow, Center for Counseling and Student Development (limited to 15 participants), Room 206;

  • 8:30-9:30 p.m., Aikido, a Japanese martial art, demonstration by the Aikikai Foundation of Delaware, Multipurpose Room C;

  • 8:45-10 p.m., Yoga, with Neil Meisel, Awareness Center in Newark, Room 219.

In addition, a “Love Your Body Day” display, sponsored by the National Organization for Women and UD’s Office of Women’s Affairs, will be on view at Kiosk B, and an EDCC mobile education unit will offer information on eating disorders at Kiosk C.
