Graduate receives highest CPA score in Pennsylvania

June 21, 2002--Matthew Schwartz, a 2001 UD graduate, achieved the highest score on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s November 2001 Certified Public Accounting (CPA) examination, according to KPMG LLP, the accounting and tax firm.

Schwartz, who graduated with a major in accounting and a minor in management information systems and economics, joined KPMG’s Philadelphia office in July 2001. He previously had completed two internships in KPMG’s Hartford office.

“Passing all four parts of the rigorous CPA exam is highly commendable, especially on the first sitting,” KPMG’s Philadelphia office managing partner Dan Mageras said. “Receiving the highest score in Pennsylvania is an outstanding achievement.”

In recognition of his accomplishment, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants has awarded Schwartz the Alexander E. Loeb Crystal Award. The honor goes to the individual earning the top CPA exam score in the commonwealth.

"The CPA exam was one of the biggest challenges I have faced. However, the accounting program at UD provided me with the solid understanding of the knowledge necessary for the exam. Succeeding on the CPA exam and meeting one of the primary challenges in the accounting profession is a very rewarding experience," Schwartz said.
