1:50 p.m., Oct. 28, 2002--UD's Salzburg Seminar Selection Committee, in collaboration with the Center for International Studies, is accepting proposals from faculty and professional staff interested in participating in the 2003 Salzburg Seminar in Austria. Proposals to the UD committee are due by 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Interested faculty and professional staff may submit a proposal, not to exceed two pages, identifying the session they wish to attend and explaining how it would enhance their teaching, research and/or public service work at the University.
The Salzburg Seminar was founded in 1947 in Austria. Session topics for 2003 include Professional Responsibility in the News Media (March 19-26), Contemporary American Literature (April 2-9), Social and Economic Dimensions of Human Rights (Aug. 6-13) and Environmental Policy and Public Dialogue (Nov. 16-23).
For complete information, visit [www.salzburgseminar.org] and go to 2003 programs online, which lists the appropriate sessions, from Session 406, which begins Feb. 26, through Session 415, which meets in December.
The seminar offers a fellowship that covers half the cost of tuition, room and board, with the other half to be sponsored by the Center for International Studies. Applicants are asked to include with their proposal a memo addressed to the selection committee from their department chair and/or dean indicating support for their participation and willingness to pay the cost of round-trip and other travel expenses to Salzburg.
Interested UD faculty and professional staff must first submit proposals to the University-wide selection committee, which will, in turn, propose up to two UD candidates to the Salzburg Seminar. The faculty committee, chaired by Arno Loessner, Institute for Public Administration, also includes Philip Flynn, English; Lesa Griffiths, Center for International Studies; Marian Lief Palley, political science and international relations; and Leslie Reidel, theatre.
Proposals may be mailed to Arno Loessner, committee chairperson, in care of the Center for International Studies, or sent as an e-mail attachment to Lesa Griffiths at [lesa@udel.edu].
