July 15, 2002--University of Delaware men's basketball coach David Henderson announced Friday that Rulon Washington of Jacksonville, Fla., has signed a scholarship offer to attend UD beginning this fall.
Washington, a 6-1, 180-pound guard, is a graduate of Edward White High School in Jacksonville. He earned All-Gateway Conference honors his junior and senior seasons at Edward White and led the city in assists and free throw percentage as a senior.
He also received scholar-athlete honors for having one of the top grade point averages in the city.
Washington was co-MVP of the Johnny T. Smith Holiday Classic as a senior at Edward White. He also played for the Jacksonville Nighthawks AAU team, which finished third in the state tournament.
"Rulon is a solid guard and a solid student," Henderson said. "We believe he has the tools and the talent to make a contribution to our program in the immediate future."
Washington joins Chris Prothro, a 6-5 small forward from Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy in Atlanta, in the Blue Hens' incoming class.
