Richard Wright subject of lecture March 7Richard King, professor of American intellectual history at the University of Nottingham, will present a lecture titled Im Black. Im a Man of the West: Richard Wright on Africa and Negritude at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 7, in Room 111 Memorial Hall. King is a visiting fellow in the Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities at Vanderbilt University. His particular areas of interest include African American thought, race and culture, the history of the South since Reconstruction, Southern literature, politics and the novel, the philosophy of history and critical theory. Among his books are The Party of Eros, A Southern Renaissance and Civil Rights and The Idea of Freedom. The author of numerous articles and reviews appearing in such diverse forums as The New Leader, The Georgia Review, Psychology Today and The Kenyon Review, he has lectured widely in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. In 1997-98, he was a fellow in the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars at the Smithsonian Institution. March 5, 2002
