UD to hold ACS Relay for Life on April 19

The University of Delaware will serve as host to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, April 19, in the Delaware Field House.

The event will continue overnight, as teams of volunteers participate in a nonstop relay around the indoor track.

The objective is for each team to keep one member jogging, walking or running laps. In addition, each team member is responsible to raise $100 for the American Cancer Society.

Relay teams will be judged on a variety of categories, including team spirit, most involved team and best karaoke performance.

Relay for Life is designed to celebrate survivorship and generate awareness of cancer.

The American Cancer Society raises funds through programs such as the Relay for Life in order to support education, research, advocacy and patient services.

This year, UD will strive to surpass the $95,000 mark established by Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison University.

The early registration deadline is March 26. There are still openings for 8-15 member teams and for individuals who would like to join an existing team.

Members of the UD community, including students, are encouraged to attend the event and cheer on the participants.
