UD faculty, alumni participate in book signing event

University of Delaware faculty and alumni will be participating in a book signing cosponsored by the Newark Heritage Alliance and Rainbow Books and Records from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, May 18, at the Rainbow store on Main Street.

Among the participants will be faculty members Robert Bennett of the English department, Fleda Brown, Delaware’s poet laureate and also of the English department, and John Munroe, H. Rodney Sharp Professor Emeritus of History.

University alumni Sean Clancy and Charles Lewis will be present to sign their published books. Also on hand will be Jerry Rhodes, a University employee and author.

Authors and artists who have used Newark as an element in their publications or have lived and worked in the Newark area will be signing books and greeting customers during two-hour time slots all day.

Subject matter introduced in the books spans a wide range of interests, including history, biography, poetry, fiction, sports and cookery.

The book signing occurs during National Historic Preservation Week (May 12-18) and the theme of this year is “Preserving the Spirit of Place.”

A portion of the proceeds benefit the Newark Heritage Alliance to fulfill its mission to “preserve the past, in the present and for the future.”

For more information, contact Rainbow Books and Music at 368-7738.
