'Doctor’s Dilemma' and 'Ideal Husband'
to open in December at UD

Oscar Wilde's comedy, "An Ideal Husband," opens at UD in December

The Professional Theatre Training Program at the University of Delaware will be performing Oscar Wilde’s comedy, “An Ideal Husband,” and George Bernard Shaw’s satire, “The Doctor’s Dilemma,” in rotating performances from December to February. Both shows take a look at exactly what determines acceptable ethical behavior in the worlds of medicine and politics. Performances for both shows will take place in Hartshorn Hall, Academy Street and East Park Place, Newark.

“An Ideal Husband,” Wilde’s timeless and effervescent comedy, concerns itself with the attempted blackmail of a rising politician and the moral code to which all public figures, including blackmailers, are subject. With typical Wildean wit and dazzling repartee, the show has more than its share of dandies, dukes, duplicity and decorum as it continues to delight and enlighten audiences.

Evening performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 7 and Feb. 1, 7, 14 and 16. Matinees will be presented at 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 and 15 and Feb. 3 and 9.

George Bernard Shaw's satire, '"The Doctor's Dilemma," opens at UD in December

In “The Doctor’s Dilemma,” Shaw offers audiences the story of a brilliant physician who discovers a cure for tuberculosis, but is faced with a medical and moral quandary. This wicked satire is a piercing, thought-provoking and shockingly contemporary inquiry into the ethical standards of the medical profession.

“The Doctor’s Dilemma” can be seen at 7:30 p.m. on the evenings on Dec. 8, 9 and 14 and Feb. 2, 9 and 15. Matinees are scheduled at 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 and Feb. 2, 10 and 16.

Ticket prices for the performances range from $7 to $17. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (302) 831-2204.
