Atlanta hoop star Prothro signs with UD

University of Delaware men's basketball head coach David Henderson announced Wednesday, May 8, that Atlanta, Ga., native Chris Prothro, a 6-5 swingman, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend UD next year.

In earning all-city as a junior, Prothro averaged 20 points per game and was an All-Region 5 and second-team Class A All-State selection by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy. This past season, Prothro was a pre-season all-region honoree by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club and was ranked as one of the Top 25 players in the state by the nationally-known club. He averaged 22 points per game before suffering a season-ending injury on Dec. 29.

"We are very fortunate to be able to sign Chris," said Delaware coach David Henderson. "Throughout his high school career, Chris was regarded as one of the top players in the state of Georgia in this year's class. He was being recruited by some of the top schools last summer. However, after he got hurt early in his senior season, those schools backed off. We feel like we got a real diamond in the rough with Chris."

Last season, Delaware went 14-16 and earned a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals in its first year as a member of the CAA. The team returns four of five starters from last year.
