2:45 p.m., Dec. 9, 2002--UD's Department of Public Safety is increasing safety patrols on the north and south areas of the campus through the end of the semester in response to several recent robberies in the area, including three that occurred on University property on Sunday, Dec. 8.
At about 1:30 a.m., Dec. 8, a male UD student was assaulted at in the Pearson parking lot as he was going to his vehicle. Three or four suspects punched and kicked him and then left in a blue Mazda Millennium. The student went to the Student Health Service and Christiana Care Emergency Room for evaluation.

All members of the campus community are reminded to be alert and aware of their surroundings. Persons should avoid walking alone at night, but, if you must walk alone, use well-lighted paths and sidewalks and take the most direct route.
All suspicious activity should be reported to the University Police at 831-2222 on campus or the Newark Police at 368-7111 off campus.

Around 9:45 p.m., Dec. 8, four female UD students had just gotten into a car in the Bob Carpenter Center parking lot when they were approached by a man who started a conversation with them. He displayed a silver handgun and demanded money and valuables from the women. He took about $10 and the keys to the car, but later returned them.
About 10 p.m., Dec. 8, a male UD student had just parked his car in a parking lot on the Laird Campus when a man approached him and demanded his money, car keys and cell phone. The suspect threw the car keys and phone over a fence and told the victim to lie face down in the snow and count to 100. The student complied and then called Public Safety.
In addition, the Newark Police are investigating three incidents that occurred over the weekend.
Around 11:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, four persons were robbed at gunpoint at the Sunoco Food Mart on Elkton Road. One of the victims had gone into the store, while the others remained in the car. When the person returned to the car, two men approached the vehicle, displayed semiautomatic pistols and demanded money. One of the suspects struck one of the victims across the nose. In the early morning of Sunday, Dec. 8, two female UD students were walking south on North Chapel Street under the CSX railroad overpass when they were approached by a man who produced a handgun and pushed it into the stomach of one of the victims, demanding that they turn over their purses. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Anyone with information should contact the Newark Police Department at 366-7110, ext. 136 or Crime Stoppers at TIP-3333.
About 2:30 a.m., Dec. 8, a male UD student was walking in front of the Wilbur Street Deli when four men approached him and asked for a dollar. When the victim said he didn't have a dollar, one of the suspects swore at him and punched him in the mouth. The other suspects joined in and began punching and kicking the student. They took $60, the victim's cell phone, cigarettes, lighter and hat. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Newark Police at 366-7111 or Crime Stoppers at TIP-3333.
