UD benefactor to be featured on NPR April 12

Atlanta art collector Paul Jones, who donated his collection of African-American art to UD in 2001, is scheduled to be featured in a segment on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” on Friday, April 12. The story is scheduled to air nationally at 6:50, 8:50 and 10:50 a.m., Eastern Daylight Time.

“Morning Edition” can be heard locally on WHYY-FM, 90.9 FM, from 6-10 a.m.

Jones’ art collection, numbering some 1,500 pieces, is one of the oldest, largest and most complete holdings of African-American art in the world. The first exhibition of works from the collection, “Opening Acts,” recently was presented at the University Gallery.

When he gave the collection to UD in 2001, Jones said, “"For the last five years, I have been looking for the ideal home where the collection would be wanted and woven into the fabric of an institution, where it would be used for teaching and exhibitions. I believe the University of Delaware is that place."
