Tickets still available for Parents & Family Weekend, Oct. 25-27

3:07 p.m., Oct. 18, 2002--Three days of fun, games and entertainment are planned for Parents and Family Weekend, Oct. 25-27. For detailed information on what’s happening, where and when, check the Parents & Family Weekend brochure that was mailed as part of The Messenger in late September or visit [www.udel.edu/parents].

While the deadline for advance ticket orders to be received at the Box office was Friday, Oct. 18, tickets still remain for all activities and may be purchased in person.

Stand-Up Opera

A unique mix of comedy and classical music blended with a cabaret sensibility promises to get Parents & Family Weekend off to a light-hearted start at 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25, when Delaware native B.J. Ward returns home with “Stand-Up Opera,” her one-woman show accompanied by live piano.

The Los Angeles Times calls B.J. Ward’s “Stand-Up Opera,” a “soprano with shtick or arias with attitude,” An acclaimed actress and singer, B.J. Ward is a former member of The Groundlings comedy troupe, has appeared on network television in shows such as “M ad About You” and “Frasier,” among others, and is the voice of Betty Rubble on “The Flintstones,” and Velma on “Scooby Doo,” in addition to hundreds of other cartoon voices and commercials.

Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for UD parents, alumni, faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $6 for students and children. Tickets may be purchased in person Monday, Oct. 21, to Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Trabant University Box Office from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25, at the Trabant University Box Office or from 7-8:30 p.m., at the Mitchell Hall box office.

Dinner at the Blue & Gold Club

The Blue & Gold Club, located at 44 Kent Way, offers fine food, sparkling service and elegant atmosphere. Reservations can be made for 5 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25, or for between 5p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, by calling 831-2582.

Pregame Brunch and Pep Rally

Show your blue and gold spirit while enjoying a buffet brunch hosted by President and Mrs. David P. Roselle and the UD Parent Board from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Delaware Field House. Join the UD Marching Band, cheerleaders, dance team and YoUDee at 11 a.m. for an entertaining display of school spirit. Brunch is $10 for adults and $5 for children under age 8. Tickets for the pre-game brunch and pep rally may be purchased at the door.

Sports

Enjoy the thrill of Fightin’ Blue Hens Football Saturday, Oct. 26, as UD takes on the University of New Hampshire at a noon kickoff. Tickets are $17 per person (all reserved seats) and are required, except for UD students with ID who receive free admission for seating in the south end zone only. Parents and families who want their students sit with them in the east and west grandstands must purchase grandstand tickets for them. Tickets for the south end zone are not available for sale.

Catch the excitement watching UD’s Ice Hockey Team vs. Towson University at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Fred Rust Ice Arena. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for UD students and children, all general admission. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Fred Rust Ice Arena box office from 4-6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26.

Tickets for both the football and ice hockey games may be purchased in person from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21, to Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Trabant University box office; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25, at the Trabant University Box Office; and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Bob Carpenter Center box office.

Brunch University Style

The entire family can enjoy a unique opportunity to sample a bit of college life with brunch in the dining halls from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, in Pencader Dining Hall, or from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Kent, Rodney and Russell dining halls. Brunch is $6.65 per person, except for UD students using meal plans. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

  • Women’s volleyball match vs. Virginia Commonwealth University, 7 p.m.

  • B.J. Ward in “Stand-Up Opera,” 8 p.m.

  • Ice hockey game vs. Towson University, 8 p.m.

  • Ice skating, 8-10 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 26

  • Pre-game brunch and pep rally, 10 a.m.-noon

  • Football game vs. University of new Hampshire, noon kickoff

  • Ice hockey game vs. Towson University, 5 p.m.

  • Dinner at the Blue & Gold Club, seatings between 5 and 8 p.m.

  • Women’s volleyball match vs. College of William & Mary, 7 p.m.

  • Ice skating, 8-10 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 27

  • Brunch University style, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Pencader Dining Hall, and 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Kent, Rodney and Russell dining halls

  • Women’s soccer game vs. College of William & Mary, 1 p.m.
  • Ice skating, 1-3 p.m.

  • Newark’s 54th annual Halloween parade, 3 p.m.

In addition, the University Gallery and the University Mineralogical Museum will be open during the three-day weekend. Admissions information sessions and campus tours will be available. The University Campus Shop will be open all three days, and the University Bookstore will be open Friday and Saturday.
