June 11, 2002--The Maryland College Health Nurses Association’s 26th annual conference, “College Health Strategies for Crisis Management and Disaster Planning,” is being hosted by the University of Delaware’s Student Health Service nurses, and is being held June 11-13 in Clayton Hall. The organization includes colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic states.

Several UD staff and faculty are participating in the conference, which is being chaired by Mary Zagar, nurse coordinator in sports medicine. John Bishop, associate vice provost of student life, welcomed the group; Vincent Disabella, physician in Student Health Service, is speaking on “Head Injury/Concussions”; Merris Hollingsworth, psychologist in the Center for Counseling and Student Development with predoctoral intern Anne Murphy and postdoctoral fellow Douglas Fogel, is speaking on “Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome”; former dean of students Timothy Brooks is speaking on “Role of the Administrator during a Campus Crisis”; Kathleen Tierney, director of the Disaster Research Center, is speaking on “The Crisis Management Planning Process”; and Anne Lomax, program director in the Center for Counseling and Student Development, is speaking on “Humor in Medicine.”

Keynote speaker was Gail Pakalns of Seton Hall, talking on “Collaborative Response to a Campus Disaster.”
