Neighbors help neighbors

The Newark Area Welfare Committee, which has assisted needy families in the community for more than 65 years, is seeking financial support as the holiday season approaches.

In the last year, the committee has provided cash assistance to more than 250 families, maintained a food cupboard and shoe program, provided meals to more than 800 individuals through a Christmas program and delivered nearly 9,000 pounds of food to low-income senior citizens through the Hope Grocery Program.

The committee is a write-in designee (9055) with the United Way.
