North College Avenue to be closed Dec. 10-12

Sewer line installation will cause the temporary closure of North College Avenue in Newark and Rockland Road near Wilmington during the week of Dec.10.

North College Avenue, from Main Street to Cleveland Avenue, will be closed beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, Dec. 10. The closure is expected to continue through Wednesday, Dec. 12.

The work zone will be located just north of the railroad crossing. The closure is necessary for the construction of a sewer line on North College Avenue. An established detour advises motorists to take Main Street to New London Road to Cleveland Avenue. If traveling from Cleveland Avenue, motorists should take Hillside Road to West Main Street.

Rockland Road will be closed at the intersection of Concord Pike (Route 202) beginning at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, and continuing through Friday, Dec. 14. This road will be closed to allow for the construction of a sewer line across Rockland Road. The detour route is to take Concord Pike to Route 141 and then to Children’s Drive.

Motorists should be alert for traffic delays at both of these locations.

DelDOT also has announced lane closures on Kirkwood Highway in Elsmere for road reconstruction. The week of Dec. 10, there will be left lane closures on Kirkwood Highway between Route 100 and Sanders Road as the contractor on the project, Diamond Materials, puts bricks in the medians.

During the week of Dec. 17, Diamond Materials will perform concrete roadway patching on Kirkwood Highway from Route 100 to Sanders Road. That work is expected to take about a week. Also that week, the company will be milling and paving in the left lane in both directions on Kirkwood Highway between Route 141 and Sanders Road. The milling and paving should take about one week to complete, and it is being done now as the main thrust during the winter months will be roadway concrete patching, and also curb and sidewalk replacement.
