UD program sets open house Aug. 27 in Georgetown

Aug. 12, 2002--The University of Delaware’s Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) Program will hold an open house for prospective students and other interested persons from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27. The event will be held in Room 529 of the Carter Partnership Center on the campus of Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown. A special presentation about the program is scheduled at 5 p.m.

“The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) program allows mature adults to further their personal and intellectual growth and experience the joy of learning for its own sake,” Gary May, UD professor of history and director of the MALS program, says.

“MALS gives students a liberal arts education at the graduate level, exciting seminars, spirited debate and the chance to establish new friendships,” May says.

To apply, students need an official transcript of their previous undergraduate courses and confirmation of their bachelor’s degree, three letters of reference and a short essay describing their intellectual interests and how they can be developed in the MALS program.

A personal interview with the program director and members of the advisory committee also is required. Applications can be submitted any time.

MALS is offered throughout the state, with an extensive array of courses available in Newark and Georgetown.

Two core courses and six elective courses are required. For detailed information, check the MALS website at [http://www.udel.edu/mals].
