Magnet workshops to be held at UD Aug. 18-22

Aug. 12, 2002--George C. Hadjipanayis, Richard B. Murray Professor of Physics and Astronomy, will host a pair of workshops this month at the University of Delaware.

The 17th International Workshop on Rare Earth Magnets and Their Applications, set Aug. 18-22, in 130 Sharp Laboratory, will bring together scientists and engineers from different backgrounds and research institutes to exchange ideas and review the current understanding of rare Earth magnets and their applications.

Beginning daily at 8:30 a.m., the workshops will concentrate on fabrication, processing and application of rare Earth magnets and on the fundamental aspects of rare Earth transition metal alloys and their magnetic hysteresis behavior.

In addition, the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on Science and Technology of Bonded Magnets will be held Aug. 22-25 in 130 Sharp Laboratory.

Beginning daily at 8:30 a.m., this workshop will afford scientists and engineers an opportunity to review the current understanding of the science of bonded magnets, discuss the current status and limits of current technologies and examine the use of new technologies to meet future demands.

For information on these workshops, visit the web site at [http://REM02.physics.udel.edu] or call (302) 831-2661.
