'Contemporary Legend' topic of lecture April 15
Veronique Campion-Vincent of the Maison des Sciences de lHomme in Paris will present a lecture on Rumor and Contemporary Legend: The French Approach at 3 p.m., Monday, April 15, in 116 Gore Hall.
Trained as a sociologist, Campion-Vincent is a leading analyst of contemporary folklore. She has written about satanism, organ thefts, big cat sightings, cancer-causing cell phones and other popular fears spread through contemporary legends.
She has published numerous papers in both English and French.
The lecture is cosponsored by the departments of Communication, Foreign Languages and Literatures and Sociology and Criminal Justice, the Center for American Material Culture Studies and the Visiting Women Scholars Fund.
