Latin American Studies council hosts lecture and poetry reading

The Middle Atlantic Council on Latin American Studies, headed by Judy B. McInnis, associate professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Delaware, will hold its 23rd annual conference at UD on Friday and Saturday, March 15–16 in various locations in the Perkins Student Center, Academy Street, Newark and Gore Hall, South College Avenue, Newark.

In conjunction with this conference, there will be several evening events open to the public on Friday, March 15. From 5-6 p.m., Mark Miller, assistant professor in the UD Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, will give a lecture titled “Guatemalan Immigration in Southern Delaware” in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center. This lecture, sponsored by the Delaware Humanities Forum, will be illustrated with photographs by Michael Oates, which will be on display in the Perkins Gallery before and after the lecture.

In addition, a series of poetry and narrative readings will take place in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center from 9-10:30 p.m. These readings will feature Mireya Kéller of Radio Cultural, Argentina; Zulema Moret of Albion College; program director Gladys Ilarregui, UD; and Hernán Galilea of Temple University.
