July 1, 2002--University of Delaware rower Lissa Kutz was one of 93 NCAA Division I student-athletes named to the 2002 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete Award team.
The National Scholar-Athlete Award, now in its fourth year, is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. Student-athletes must have a 3.5 or better grade point index and compete in at least 75 percent of the team's varsity events. In all, 93 Division I athletes and 67 Division II and III athletes were recognized.
Kutz also was one of 20 NCAA Division I student-athletes honored on the Verizon/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District II All-Academic team in May.
Kutz, who earned her degree from Delaware in May, capped an outstanding career this spring by leading the Blue Hens to their first ever Colonial Athletic Association team title and to a fourth-place team finish at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta.
She competed in every meet during the season and earned the team's Alumni Association Most Valuable Player award from a vote of team members. She was a member of the team's varsity heavyweight eights crew that captured the CAA title and also placed eighth at the Dad Vail Regatta. In addition, the heavyweight eights team was first at the Petrakis Cup at Jacksonville, Fla., and third at the ECAC-Avaya Regatta in New Jersey.
A three-year letter winner, Kutz was an honor student with a 3.929 grade point average as a biology major. Her grade point average was the highest among the 15 student-athletes honored by CRCA in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
